ROUTES INTO TEACHING

SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training)

Wyvern College offers School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) through the Wildern Partnership in association with the i2i Teaching Partnership. (Click on the logos to find our more).

This is our local training partner and we aim to offer teaching opportunities across all key stages, allowing you complete immersion into the school environment.

From 2024/25 Wildern Partnership is a Lead Partner in a new collaboration with i2i Teaching Partnership.  i2i is Ofsted rated outstanding and is a well established specialist secondary accredited training provider based at Weydon School. Wildern Partnership as a Lead Partner, will be offering high quality secondary teacher training across Hampshire and the wider area.

Their programme offers quality cross phase teacher training across Hampshire. As a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme, this allows you to learn the craft of teaching in a school with children and experienced teachers and work as part of a team.

Each trainee teacher is supported in school by an experienced mentor along with access to dedicated teachers. Subject specialists support trainee teachers to develop their subject knowledge. Core curriculum training sessions take place at our partnership schools, online and at our dedicated training centre.

What's it like to train at Wyvern?

Testimonials from two of Wyvern's trainee teachers

Will Archer (PE University of Southampton SUPA)
I have had a really positive Teacher Training experience at Wyvern College and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about becoming a teacher. I have completed my training through the University of Southampton (SUPA), meaning that I have been teaching at Wyvern Monday – Thursday and then training at the University of Southampton every Friday. This has been a really positive experience as I have been able to put into practice everything I have learnt at University into my teaching. I have had great support and guidance throughout the year from my mentors, the PE department, and all members of staff here at Wyvern. All the training (School and University) has been relevant and enabled me to progress as a Teacher throughout the year, resulting in securing a job starting this year.

Lauren Bland (Maths University of Southampton PGCE)
I have really enjoyed completing my teacher training at Wyvern and would recommend the training here to anyone looking to enter teaching . The support has been fantastic, both from my professional mentor and department, in helping to develop my teaching and complete the university assignments. They have been there every step of the way and given me an incredible start to my teaching career. I chose the university led route, which included four days teaching at school and then one day at university per week. This route has meant that I have received lots of in school training, while still learning the pedagogy of teaching from expert lecturers at university. I would recommend this route as university gives an extra support network to lean on, which is needed during your training year.
